About the centre of expertise

We are the Amsterdam UMC centre of expertise for rare cardiac disease, rare cardiac rhythm disease and rare cardiomyopathy.

The Expertise Centre for Rare Heart Conditions (ECZA) brings together care, research and teaching for people with a rare heart condition. Patients keep their own cardiologist; we add specialist knowledge where it is needed.

The centre is recognised in the Dutch ECZA system and is part of ERN GUARD-Heart.

Under the Amsterdam UMC umbrella

The centre is part of Amsterdam UMC, and works across cardiology, clinical genetics and the laboratory so that a patient follows one pathway rather than several.

ECZA recognition is granted by the Minister of Health and runs for five years. It commits us to multidisciplinary care, to taking part in European research, and to sharing what we learn with referrers.
